KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg says the Sarawak government has long-term plans to turn Kampung Segedup into a modern and well-structured village.

He said that one of the plans include opening a new housing area in Kampung Segedup, with the Land and Survey Department currently doing road survey works.

“We want to develop the ‘Rumah Pertiwiku’ affordable housing scheme here, with houses costing between RM90,000 and RM120,000, with a width of 11 to 12 points.

“Thus, Kampung Segedup will be developed to become a modern village hub that is well-structured, and this includes the Sungai Maong area too,” he said, adding that this would allow those staying in those areas to own their own houses.

Abang Johari, who was speaking at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok branch’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering at the Kampung Segedup multipurpose hall here Saturday, added that the housing development plan would closely follow the style of the Bengoh Resettlement Scheme.

Meanwhile, Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof in his speech earlier advised Kampung Segedup residents to work hard and not be lax so as to ensure the area continues to be under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the upcoming state election.

“I am confident that if we work hard, we can get huge support not only from the residents here but all over Sarawak,” he said.

He also urged Sarawakians to continue giving their support to Abang Johari in fighting for the state’s rights and to prevent outside forces from interfering.

“We don’t want what is going on in the peninsula to happen here, so we have to make sure that Sarawak’s culture of multi-racial harmony and peace is defended,” Fadillah said.
