KUCHING: Sarawakian women who have just given birth can expect good news from Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during the Sarawak State Budget this year-end.

This was the teaser he gave reporters when asked to comment on when he would be announcing the upcoming assistance to help the welfare and lessen the burden of mothers.

“Just wait. I will announce later. I will let you know,” he said when met after the ‘Kampung Heritage Product Launch’ at Mydin Petra Jaya here yesterday.

He added that the assistance would involve a lot of ‘financial application’.

On May 5, Abang Johari announced that the assistance would be for mothers who had just given birth, as in the first six months after delivery, they would need to spend a lot on formula and other necessary items for their babies.

The Chief Minister, however, remained tight-lipped on the details of this ‘good news’, only stating that he would make the announcement at a later date.

This upcoming assistance would be an addition to the Endowment Fund Sarawak launched earlier this year, where every baby born on Jan 1 this year and onwards would be eligible to receive a one-off incentive of RM1,000.
