KUCHING: Nurul Maimanah Abdul Qahhar’s (Nana) dedication and unwillingness to give up paid off on Sunday night after she was named champion in this year’s Bintang Kecil RTM singing competition.

The 11-year-old from Melaka has participated in the competition for the past four years, perfecting her skills along the way to not only secure her victory, but also bag the Best Performance Award.

Nana’s double win saw her take home the grand prize of RM10,000 plus an additional RM1,000, along with trophies and certificates.

She performed ‘Lelaki Teragung’ by Dayang Nurfaizah and ‘Listen’ by Beyonce.

Second place went to the only boy finalist, Eiffel Paul Pailus, 11, from Sabah while third went to Camaiellya Edward (Cammy), 11, from Sarawak.

They won RM7,000 and RM5,000 respectively.

The consolation prize of RM4,000 each went to Dayang Irsyadhania Iraril and Ain Fariesha Azamain, both from Sabah, and Nur Ain Nadzirah Ahmad Safrie from Sarawak.

Sunday’s finale was held at the Sarawak Indoor Stadium and featured performances by Ara Johari, Aizat, Syamel and Ismail Izzani.

For this year’s competition, the ‘berambeh’ concept allowed the contestants to spend three weeks of training and recreation together, with educational visits to various places of interest across the state capital as well as weekly concerts.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datin Patinggi Dato Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang were guests-of-honour at the event.

RTM Malaysia broadcasting director-general Datuk Abu Bakar Abdul Rahim, RTM Sarawak deputy director (Broadcasting) Faridah Sulong, Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and wife Siti Shorgayah Zaiden were also present.
