CM: All Tabika, Taska and Sekolah Tahfiz in Sarawak to close for two weeks

KUCHING: All Tabika, Taska and Sekolah Tahfiz in Sarawak are instructed to close for two weeks effective tomorrow amid the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) outbreak, says Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Apart from that, he also instructed that all schools in the state extend their school holidays for another week until March 29.

“Institutions of Higher Education, both government and private, are to defer their new academic session by two weeks, effective tomorrow,” he told a press conference at his office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

The press conference was held in light of the Covid-19 outbreak where Sarawak has recorded a total of 34 positive cases over the past three days.

Abang Johari said out of these cases 29 were imported cases.

He pointed out that the state government has come up with several control measures to prevent further escalation of Covid-19.

In addition to closing schools and deferring academic sessions, he said all Sarawak government official functions, involving more than 50 persons, are to be cancelled or postponed until further notice.

“Any public functions, involving more than 50 persons are strongly advised to be postponed or cancelled until further notice.”

He also instructed that all public sports facilities including swimming pools, stadiums and gymnasium are to be closed effective tomorrow until further notice.

Also present were Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, Local Government and Housing Minister Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian and Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.
