BAU: Siniawan will have it’s own waterfront soon as a new tourist attraction to boost the town’s economy.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said that as Siniawan was in the vicinity of the Sarawak River, it will be able to capitalize on its location as one of the stops for boat rides along the river.

“Tourists can enjoy a boat ride from the Kuching Waterfront and stop by Siniawan to have a look at the old town. After that, they can return to Kuching city by road,” he said at a Chinese New Year dinner on Wednesday.

To make this journey more attractive, Siniawan needs a waterfront, he said before agreeing to allocate funds for the building of the waterfront.

He added that Siniawan is famous for its historical wooden shophouses and friendly people, and deserves to have its various attractions made more accessible.

He also suggested that the town offer horse rides to complete the whole “old world” experience.

“As a tourist attraction, the town’s facilities need to be upgraded as well, and I promise that the route to Siniawan will be widened and upgraded, with street lights for safety,” he added.
