KUCHING: The passing of former Democratic Action Party (DAP) state chairman Dato Jason Wong Sing Nang is a big loss to the state, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said.

He added that despite having different political ideology, Wong made significant contributions to the state.

“When he criticised, it was done in a manner which contributed to a bigger view, and he was professional at what he did. The state has really lost a great leader,” said Abang Johari.

The Chief Minister was met by reporters after attending the ‘Seminar Pembangunan Ummah’ at the State Islamic Complex yesterday.

Wong, who was the Lanang MP from 1990 to 1995, passed away in Sydney yesterday morning.

A prominent lawyer in Sibu, Wong was among those who supported the State Land Code amendment presented by the state government. Wong resigned from DAP in 2001.
